Better Roads & Transportation Council of America

The Better Roads & Transportation Council of America is a national informational group whose goal is to develop citizen support organizations for a sound, well-maintained national transportation system with continued adequate funding support in all 50 states.

BR&TCA holds at least one meeting each year – frequently in conjunction with the American Road & Transportation Builders Association mid-year conferences.

BR&TCA members develop a wealth of information through the exchange of ideas and publications between the state organizations, through contact established at the federal level and at meetings or other communications between the members and associated organization.

Although BR&TCA is basically an affiliation of organizations concerned with state highway and transportation programs, it is also extremely concerned with national transportation issues because of the increasing impact of federal action on state transportation programs.

When appropriate, the association does take a position on critical transportation issues. For example, BR&TCA members were actively involved in the 1997-1998 congressional legislation that reauthorized the federal surface transportation program – the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century or TEA-21.

BR&TCA enables member states to follow the activities of other organizations and permits development of more effective action by coordinating the information conveyed to respective congressional delegations.

BR&TCA has established liaison with good roads or transportation betterment association in many states. Where such organizations do not exist, it communicates with state transportation officials and the private sector in an attempt to develop a base upon which to build interest in forming such an organization.
