Accelerated Project Delivery Task Force
Industry, Government Join Forces to Expedite Vital Transportation Project Completion
The kick-off meeting of a new AASHTO-AGC-ARTBA Joint Committee task force organized to develop management, policy, regulatory and legislative recommendations that could significantly accelerate highway and transit project delivery was held at ARTBA headquarters in Washington, D.C., January 15.
The task force was organized at the request of new Federal Highway Administration Administrator Victor Mendez to provide private sector input to a new internal FHWA priority initiative to cut project delivery time called “Every Day Counts.”
The task force includes leaders and staff from ARTBA, the American Association of Highway & Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC).
Meeting participants included FHWA Deputy Administrator Greg Nadeau, Chief Consul Karen Hedlund and Associate Administrator for Infrastructure King Gee. ARTBA members include Leo Vecellio of West Palm Beach, Fla.-based Vecellio Group, Rich Wagman of York, Pa.-based G.A. & F.C. Wagman, Inc. Mike Cegelis, senior vice president of Corapolis, Pa.-based American Bridge Co., and Paul Monte, a partner with Peckar & Abramson. ARTBA member firm executives Bob Lanham and Brian C. Kaub P.E., with Williams Brothers Construction and Granite Construction Company, respectively, are also participating as AGC representatives.
The group plans to have initial recommendations completed by August.
Established in 1902 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., ARTBA represents the U.S. transportation construction industry before Congress, the Executive Branch, federal agencies, news media and general public.
