Council of University Transportation Centers Announces 2009-2010 Award Winners

The Council of University Transportation Centers (CUTC), a national organization whose members conduct research in transportation construction, management and policy issues, announced its 2009 awards January 9 during a special dinner in the Nation’s Capital.

 

Recipients include:

Distinguished Contribution to University Transportation Education and Research 
Honors individuals who have had a long history of significant and outstanding contribution to university-level transportation education and research.

  • Michael Kyte, P.E., Ph.D., National Institute for Advanced Transportation Technology, University of Idaho

Lifetime Achievement in Transportation Research & Education
Recognizes individuals who have contributed immensely throughout their professional lives to transportation research and education by working in government, business or non-governmental organizations.

  • The Honorable Nick J. Rahall (D-W.Va.), U.S. House of Representatives

New Faculty Award
Presented to tenure-track educators in recognition of outstanding reaching and research contributions.

  • Dominique Lord, Ph.D., Texas A&M University

Milton Pikarsky Award
Recognizes four graduate students in the transportation field for the best doctoral dissertations, MS theses or MS/ME reports with an emphasis on science and technology.

  • Yingyan Lou, Ph.D., University of Florida
  • Dimitra Michalaka, MS, University of Florida

Charley V. Wootan Award 
Given to four graduate students in the transportation field for the best dissertations, theses or MS/ME reports with an emphasis on policy & planning.

  • Patrick Qiang, Ph.D., University of Massachusetts
  • Bharath Rajagopalan, MS, University of Texas at Austin

Nevilla A. Parker Award 
Presented to the two best non-thesis papers/projects in transportation submitted for the MS degree in lieu of a thesis, in the areas of policy & planning and science & technology.

  • Daren Grilley, Mineta Transportation Institute, San Jose State University
  • Kemba Walcott, The City College, City University of New York

Under a management agreement, the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) manages CUTC’s day-to-day activities and many CUTC members are actively involved leaders in ARTBA’s Research & Education Division.

CUTC was established in 1979 by the major transportation research centers and institutes in the United States. CUTC membership represents over 70 of the nation's leading university-based transportation research and education programs. Collectively, CUTC members have advanced the state-of-the-art in all modes and disciplines of transportation.
