Monthly Transportation Construction Contract Awards Report
The monthly U.S. Transportation Construction Market Report provides the number and value of new contracts awarded each month by state and local DOTs for transportation construction projects. The data is broken out by state for highway, bridge, port and waterway, railroad and airport projects.
The value of new transportation contract awards in January 2012 was down 29.5 percent compared to January 2011, to $3.9 billion.
Value of Transportation Construction Put In Place
The market intelligence reports include the monthly Value of Construction Put In Place Report, which tracks the value of construction work completed for all modes of transportation, including highways, bridges, airports, public transit systems and water transportation facilities.
The value of construction work put in place on transportation and transportation-related projects totaled $114.3 billion in 2011, down 5.4 percent from a record $120.9 billion in 2010. This was only the second decline in almost 20 years of record-keeping and the largest decline ever.
Federal Highway Obligation Report
The monthly Federal Highway Obligation Report tracks state-by-state data on the amount of federal funds obligated each month for federal-aid highway and bridge projects.
Because of the continuing uncertainty surrounding the FY 2012 funding total, which now appears will be down $2 billion from FY 2011, state and local highway agencies continued to exercise restraint in obligating funds for projects. Only $930 million were obligated during December, bringing the fiscal year to date total to $2.47 billion. This is $1.06 billion less than was obligated during the first three months of FY 2011.
Quarterly Market Conditions Survey Report
The Quarterly Market Conditions Survey Report offers a broad range of data on current transportation construction market conditions and the outlook from a survey of ARTBA contractor members. This report is also available to any contractors that participate in the survey.

Transportation Construction Employment Report
The Transportation Construction Employment Report is a monthly update on employment in the industry.
There were 255,400 workers employed by highway and bridge contractors in December 2011. Employment in highway and bridge construction rose by 4.1 percent in December compared to December 2010, an increase of about 10,000 workers.
