Saturday, October 2

8:00 p.m.
Optional: Broadway Show “Jersey Boys” or “Wicked” (Pre-registration required)
“Jersey Boys” was the 2006 Tony Award Winner for best musical.  Broadway’s biggest success story takes you behind the music of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons and as “The New York Times” says, “the crowd goes wild.” Follow the rags-to-rock-to-riches tale of four blue collar kids working their way from the streets of Newark to the heights of stardom. Featuring such hits as “Sherry,” Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You,” “Oh, What a Night” and more.

The smash hit musical “Wicked,” now into its fourth year, has broken all previous box office records and looks set to become a Broadway legend.  Wicked tells the story of life in Oz long before the days of Dorothy with a host of characters new and familiar.  “USA Today” declares the musical will make you “laugh, cry and think - in the right places, and for the right reasons.”

There are a very limited number of tickets available.  Register for this event as soon as possible or contact ARTBA Director of Meetings, Ed Tarrant at 202-289-4434.

Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs Exhibit
The “New York Times” says: “If you have ever been astonished by the objects found in the king’s tomb — whether from seeing Tut’s first museum tour in the 1970s, or this more wide-ranging show in one of its six preceding locations — you will be amazed again.”

The exhibition focuses on the 18th Dynasty, a 100-year period when Egypt was at the height of its power and the "golden age" of Egyptian artistry. This was the era when Tutankhamun and his ancestors reigned. The extensive array of more than 130 extraordinary artifacts from the tomb of Tutankhamun and other ancient Egyptian sites features 50 of Tutankhamun's burial objects, including his royal diadem and one of the four gold and precious stone inlaid canopic coffinettes that contained his mummified internal organs. Additionally, a new gallery has been added that highlights recent findings about King Tut's paternity and cause of death.

The East Side Access project will connect the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Main and Port Washington Lines from Queens under the East River to a new LIRR terminal beneath Grand Central Terminal. The new connection will increase the LIRR’s capacity into Manhattan, and dramatically shorten travel time for Long Island and Queens commuters.
The project is being built by ARTBA member firm Judlau Contracting, Inc., in a joint venture (JV) with Dragados USA, Inc.  It includes boring four 25,000 foot long tunnels utilizing two tunnel boring machines each with the capacity to drill a 22 foot diameter passage.  It will also involve excavation of approximately 30,000 yards of cavern space and cross passages utilizing conventional “drill and blast” techniques.  The team will line the tunnels with both “Shotcrete” and cast-in-place concrete.
In addition to the tunnel and passageways, the Judlau-Dragados JV was also awarded the contract for cavern excavation to accommodate a new LIRR platform and mezzanine beneath New York’s historic Grand Central Terminal.  Construction will involve excavation and concrete lining of four new escalator ways and nine shafts in the terminal’s Madison Yard.  The project is expected to generate 450,000 cubic yards of material using a “drill and shot” method.
