Washington, D.C. [February 5, 2007]Lisa Kelley McCluskey, a communications manager with the Washington, D.C.-headquartered American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA), has been elected president of Washington Women in Public Relations (WWPR).

She has been on the WWPR board of directors for six years and previously served as the membership director and “Woman of the Year” event director. This past year, she was WWPR vice president.

“It is an honor and privilege to be elected president of Washington Women in Public Relations,” McCluskey said. “Over the next year, one of my main priorities will be to work with my fellow members to build support for a college scholarship program for young women in the Washington, D.C., area who wish to pursue a career in public relations.”

At ARTBA, McCluskey manages national communications activities for the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) Clearinghouse and the National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse (NWZSIC) federal contracts, which are administered by the association’s Transportation Development Foundation.

Prior to joining ARTBA, McCluskey was manager of communications and managing editor of a quarterly publication for the Career College Association (CCA), a leading higher education association in Washington, D.C. She developed public relations strategies to promote the activities of the association and its members during reauthorization of the higher education act.

Her freelance public relations experience has included work with CNN’s Washington bureau, the Irish National Lacrosse team and Volunteers of America. She also was an account coordinator at VMS, a national media monitoring company, where she worked with top public relations firms, advertising agencies and Fortune 500 companies.

WWPR is a professional organization for women in the public relations field. For more than 25 years, WWPR has provided its members with networking and professional development opportunities.

Established 105 years ago, ARTBA represents the public and private sectors of the U.S. transportation construction industry before Congress, the White House, federal regulatory agencies, news media and general public.
