Washington, D.C. [Feb. 27, 2008]Capping a week-long session dubbed by one attendee as an “excellent atmosphere for learning and sharing knowledge,” a group of transportation design and construction professionals acquired a much better understanding of business management principles by attending the Feb. 18-22 American Road & Transportation Builders Association Transportation Development Foundation's (ARTBA-TDF) Management Crucible™.

The intensive academy, hosted by the ARTBA-TDF's “Transportation Builder Institute” in the Nation's Capital, is specifically offered for industry executives who don't have a formal M.B.A. education, but want to learn more about basic business issues. Among the topics covered: finance and accounting, economics, business operations, management and leadership, and strategy and planning. The curriculum was built on an acknowledged and highly successful adult learning model—participants learn from each other and instruction provided by industry experts.

Among those attending:

•  David Baker, construction manager, P.J. Keating Company, Lunenburg , Mass.

•  Garry P. Balboni, P.E., vice president, E.T. & L . Corp., Stow , Mass.

•  Todd E. Becker, vice president, G.A. & F.C. Wagman, Inc., Emigsville , Pa.

•  Jennie Lee Colosi, P.E., president, E.T. & L . Corp., Stow , Mass.

•  Steve Concannon, regional manager, Pavement Recycling Systems, Escondido , Calif.

•  Greg Gresko, vice president, Midasco, LLC, Elkridge , Md.

•  Craig Hoffman, senior project manager, Midasco, LLC, Elkridge , Md.

•  Mark Pillsbury, regional manager, P.J. Keating Company, Lunenburg , Mass.
