Ben Franklin … W. C. Fields … Rocky Balboa … Pope Francis!
These are just a few of the famous personalities associated with Philadelphia, site of this year’s September 27-29 ARTBA National Convention. Please add your name to the list by registering to join us at the Hilton Penn’s Landing.
As you’ve probably heard, the start of our annual meeting briefly overlaps with the pontiff’s scheduled visit to the City of Brotherly Love. We booked first! The Pope’s visit could mean some arrival challenges. ARTBA staff is working closely with city officials and hotel personnel to make sure things go smoothly. Please monitor the event website—www.artbanationalconvention.org—for any last minute developments.
Once you get settled, the hotel on the Delaware River waterfront is flanked by the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing and Spruce Street Harbor Park. Independence Hall and Liberty Bell Center are just a few blocks away, and you won’t have any trouble finding a tasty Philly cheesesteak.
Our program will be filled with meaningful sessions, and substantive discussions during division, committee and council meetings.
Once again, as it has been one of the most highly rated sessions of the past two conventions, we will feature a panel of industry heavy hitters who will share their perspective on key business and transportation financing issues.
The ARTBA government affairs and economics team will provide the latest information about fixing the Highway Trust Fund (HTF) and the status of the highway/transit program reauthorization, and deliver a transportation construction market conditions report.
CNN host and Sirius XM radio personality Michael Smerconish will be the featured speaker at a special lunch commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the ARTBA Foundation, the 20th Anniversary of the Young Executive Development Program and the 15th Anniversary of the Lanford Family Highway Worker Memorial Scholarship Program. Smerconish, the author of several “New York Times” best-selling books, has spoken out about the need to address the nation’s infrastructure needs. He will address that topic along with the 2016 presidential race.
Finally, we will host a September 29 dinner to install 2015-16 Chairman David Zachry.
So please join us in the city where our Founding Fathers enshrined roadbuilding as part of the Constitution! What better place to meet. There’s important work to do. But we promise to have some fun along the way.
