Planning & Design
Since 1902, ARTBA has been the recognized industry leader in growing and protecting the federal transportation construction market. Here's why you want to be a member of ARTBA's Planning & Design (P&D) Division:
You will have excellent networking opportunities with the Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs) of state DOTs. The ARTBA CAO Breakfasts at the American Association of State and Highway Transportation Officials' regional conferences feature updates from each state DOT commissioner/CAO in each region. You'll have an opportunity to learn about current transportation initiatives, upcoming engineering work and design-build work in the states. These sessions are consistently rated as one of the strongest benefits of P&D Division membership.
You will have unmatched representation on key transportation planning and design issues with federal agencies. ARTBA members and staff meet regularly with key officials with the U.S. DOT, Environmental Protection Agency, Army Corps of Engineers and other related agencies. Recently, ARTBA's P&D Division was the only group invited by the U.S. DOT's Office of the Inspector General (OIG) to provide industry insight on their engineering-related audit work.
You will have the lead advocate for market development and regulatory protection working for you. ARTBA is committed to ensuring that regulations are fair and reasonable and are implemented as Congress intended. This includes development of a fair environmental review process that cannot be hijacked by anti-growth groups and, specifically for engineers, a fair system for overhead based on the Brooks Act and Qualifications-Based Selection.
You will build important industry networks and relationships. ARTBA's cross-representational membership creates unique opportunities for engineers to develop and build business networks critical to the changing industry landscape. Public private partnerships, design-build and other business processes are dependant upon relationships between previously isolated areas of the market. ARTBA meetings, committees and leadership positions also provide great forums to mix with other industry professionals.
You can help promote excellence in the engineering industry. The annual "Globe Awards Program" honors U.S. transportation construction industry excellence in environmental protection and mitigation and fosters environmental stewardship through promotion of award-winning projects and activities as examples for others to follow. The "PRIDE Awards" annually recognize extraordinary efforts by firms and individuals who enhance the image of the industry.
