Presentation Summary: PCL Civil Constructors, Inc. completed the first CM/GC bridge and lateral bridge slides in the state of Vermont by using accelerated bridge construction (ABC) methods to successfully slide the Northbound and Southbound Interstate-91 bridges into place. The project consisted of removing the existing bridges, sliding the new 136-foot span bridge 50 feet into place, lowering the bridge onto permanent bearings, and all maintenance of traffic to support the closure. PCL slid the I-91 bridges into place in under six and four hours, respectively, with two falsework and jacking system configurations. This method resulted in a safe completion that was delivered ahead of schedule. The Northbound Bridge opened to traffic three hours early, while the Southbound Bridge opened to traffic five and a half hours early.
