ARTBA Launches New Safety Course

What happened: ARTBA has launched a new safety course focused on protecting workers in roadway construction zones. It debuted Jan. 14 at a seminar hosted by state chapter affiliate Long Island Contractors Association in Plainview, N.Y.

The training is sponsored through a Harwood Grant from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). It emphasizes hazards known as the OSHA Focus Four for Construction, including Falls, Struck-by, Electrocution, and Caught-In Between with a spotlight on electrical safety. Nearly 40 participants interacted with instructors for five hours, allowing ARTBA’s safety experts to pilot the new curriculum and obtain feedback from industry engineers, project managers, safety professionals, and others.

What’s next: ARTBA will continue to offer the new four-hour training program free to industry groups throughout 2022 to reduce the number of injuries and fatalities in the transportation construction industry.

• Host organizations will be required to provide a facility for the training as well as 20-student minimum and 40-person maximum.
• The course is open to organizations and individuals who are regulated by OSHA.
