What happened: ARTBA Jan. 10 outlined for the U.S. DOT six core principles and seven priority areas to help ensure the proper implementation of the historic investments and policy reforms in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).

Why it matters: The letter to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg from ARTBA President Dave Bauer notes that “a well-crafted and executed federal transportation improvement plan can strengthen economic competitiveness and enhance the quality of life for all Americans.” If implemented properly, the IIJA should “facilitate the most dramatic upgrade and renewal of the nation’s surface transportation network since the creation of the Interstate Highway System in 1956,” Bauer said.
