What happened: ARTBA and industry partners on May 9, requested that the Department of Labor (DOL) extend the compliance deadline for its finalized overtime rule, which increases the minimum salary threshold for overtime compensation for full-time employees who work over 40 hours per week. Read ARTBA’s summary of the final rule. DOL also announced two online seminars to brief the public in May and June.

Why it matters: Employers currently have until July 1 to comply, just two months after rule finalization. The short window may pose significant challenges for companies that need to adjust their payroll systems, reclassify employees, or take other steps. A September deadline extension is needed to give employers more time to meet the new requirements.

What’s next: DOL has not signaled when it will respond to the coalition’s request. ARTBA’s Prianka Sharma is the contact.
