What’s happening: The Senate Feb. 26 confirmed Ryan McCormack to serve as undersecretary for policy at the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).

Background: McCormack, who was nominated to the spot by the White House in September 2025, is a long-time aide to Secretary Sean Duffy, having served as his legislative director during Duffy’s time in the House of Representatives. Prior to joining the Trump administration, McCormack served as chief of staff for Rep. Scott Fitzgerald (R-Wis.).

Why it matters: As the number three person at U.S. DOT, McCormack will have a hand in shaping and advocating for the administration’s priorities for the next surface transportation bill.
