What happened: The Department of Labor (DOL) is hosting an informational webinar Jan. 11 to discuss its proposed regulation enhancing its apprenticeship program.

Why it matters:  The DOL-registered apprenticeship program allows employers to offer paid work experience and training opportunities to job seekers who may not have requisite work skills and qualifications. DOL estimates that thirty-three percent of all apprentices are in the construction industry. The agency also proposes establishing an Office of Apprenticeship, and the development of industry standards, and industry skills frameworks.

What’s next: ARTBA is conducting an exhaustive review and is convening an informal member working group to discuss the rule once it’s published in the Federal Register. ARTBA’s Prianka Sharma is the contact.
