What happened: The U.S. Department of Transportation Aug. 27 announced 29 states will receive Charging and Fueling Infrastructure grants, in order to support the buildout of a national electric vehicle (EV) charging network. Ten fast-charging projects will receive $200 million to support charging along national Alternative Fuel Corridors, while $321 million will support 41 community charging projects.

A list of projects receiving support is available here.

Why it matters: The federal EV charging program has gotten off to a slow start, and these projects will help fill gaps in the network. ARTBA’s perspectives on the transportation construction industry’s role in the build-out of a national EV network is available here.

What’s next: More EV charging grant announcements may be announced later this year, as a second round of applications is set to close in mid-September.
