What happened: The House Sept. 16, by a 415 to 9 vote, approved the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2026, a bipartisan bill that authorizes $7 billion in Army Corps of Engineers projects, and dozens more feasibility studies, needed to improve the nation’s ports, harbors, and other waterways.

Why it matters: In a letter of support to members of the House Transportation & Infrastructure (T&I) Committee in June, ARTBA noted: “providing these resources and policy structure will enhance goods movement, boost safety, and bolster the economy” and is “part of the comprehensive infrastructure renewal the nation requires.”

What’s next: The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee advanced its version of a WRDA bill in July, but leaders have not set a date for consideration by the full chamber.
