Connecting Communities
Challenge: The charming city of Conway in central Arkansas has everything a small city could offer – good jobs, great schools, parks and tons of recreational activities. It is home to tech companies and several colleges. Amidst all the cultural and economic activity, there is a lack of connectivity. If you don’t have a car – you are cut off from these opportunities.
Solution: With help from the federal infrastructure investment law, the city of Conway is moving forward with a plan to connect historically disadvantaged neighborhoods to the city’s 10 parks, three major retail areas, three universities, and 14 major employment centers. The “Connect Conway” greenway trail project will provide fair and accessible transportation through the construction of a 15-mile multiuse path. Once finished, the new greenway will provide all city residents with safe access to jobs, healthcare, education, and recreation.
What they’re saying: “The name of the project rings true to what the project is all about: connecting Conway,” said Planning & Development Director James Walden. “This will be a tremendous recreational asset. But it provides a real transportation option for those who can’t or choose not to drive.” (City of Conway Website)
