Delivering Safety Improvements in Arizona

Challenge: U.S 93 is an important north – south corridor that cuts through the Arizona desert from the town of Wickenburg above Phoenix, all the way up to the Hoover Dam at the state’s border with Nevada. It’s a well-traveled route carrying both people and commerce. Like many older highways, dangerous passing can occur along certain narrow stretches.

Solution: Over the last several decades, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has dedicated nearly half a billion dollars to widening and improving US 93 with a long-term vision of transforming this highly traveled route into a four-lane divided highway through the entire 200-mile stretch. With help from federal infrastructure investment, the state has made tremendous progress. The most recent success being Dec. 2024 completion of the span between Tegner Street and Wickenburg Ranch Way. Work included adding lanes, constructing raised center medians, installing frontage roads and roundabouts, and providing better drainage, lighting, and erosion control.
