Somewhere Over the Rainbow,
Commuters Get Home Faster
Challenge: Crash rates along the U.S. 69 corridor in Kansas are 53 percent above the statewide average. Existing pavement and bridges on the highway are 50+ years old and overdue for replacement. Meanwhile, congestion on the busiest four-lane highway in Kansas is only growing; peak travel times are expected to triple over the next few years.
The Solution: With help from the federal infrastructure investment law, the 69Express Project in Overland Park will reconstruct the highway and add a toll lane in each direction between 103rd Street to 151st Street. This will improve safety, reduce traffic jams, and give commuters more of their time back. Afterall, “There’s no place like home.”
What They’re Saying: “It’s the biggest bottle neck in the state and it’s time for us to get that fixed for the citizens of Overland Park and the rest of the traveling public.” – Julie Lorenz, Former Kansas Sec. Of Transportation (69Express website)
