Comments to FHWA Supporting VA NEPA Assignment

ARTBA submitted a letter to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) strongly supporting the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) application to assume federal environmental review responsibilities under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). ARTBA emphasized that allowing qualified states to conduct these reviews can accelerate transportation project delivery, reduce costs, and improve decision-making without weakening federal environmental protections or oversight. Citing successful implementation in other states, ARTBA urged FHWA to approve Virginia’s application expeditiously.
