What’s happening: Transportation leaders and industry executives who helped restore critical infrastructure in the wake of Hurricane Helene will take the stage Sept. 28 at ARTBA’s 2026 National Convention in Kohler, Wis., to share their experiences from one of the most significant recovery efforts in recent memory.

In September 2024, Hurricane Helene left a trail of destruction across the Southeast, washing out roads and bridges, triggering landslides, severing connections, and devastating communities across five states. The public and private sectors worked around the clock to reopen routes, reconnect towns, and begin the long process of rebuilding.

During a panel session, representatives from Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee, and the contractors who were on the front lines of the response will discuss what happened, the challenges they faced, lessons learned, and where recovery efforts stand today.

Why it matters: The session, “Leading Through the Storm: How Transportation Agencies and Industry Responded to Hurricane Helene,” will provide attendees with a firsthand look at emergency response, interagency coordination, contractor mobilization, infrastructure resilience, and the partnerships that proved essential to restoring mobility after the storm. Panelists will share real-world insights that can help agencies and companies better prepare for future natural disasters and extreme weather events.

What’s next: Join us in Kohler for this and other timely discussions shaping the transportation construction industry.
