During major highway construction in Camden, New Jersey, the widening of I-295 and Route 42 necessitated the replacement of a bridge overhead. A safe, reliable Acrow detour structure was considered critical to the success of the project: in addition to heavy traffic, utilities, which had been carried by the old bridge, needed to be safely maintained to avoid any interruption to critical services. Acrow’s two-lane bridge is 450 feet long in two spans of 240 feet and 210 feet, with a roadway width of 24 feet to maintain two-way traffic. The bridge was successfully assembled in an extremely tight build area and installed over two major highways with the addition of a long launching nose to minimize the weight of the structure during the initial push to the first pier. Completed in August 2021, it is anticipated the detour bridge will be in place until late 2024.
