Acrow’s bridges are also frequently used to detour traffic for emergency applications. In late August 2021, Hurricane Ida made U.S. landfall in Louisiana, and southeastern portions of the state were particularly hard hit. In Jefferson Parish, 22 miles south of New Orleans, the Kerner Swing Bridge was critically damaged by a barge that broke loose from its moorings. Closed immediately, the bridge had served as the only vehicular access to the mainland for the community of Barataria. A floating bridge was installed in days to allow access to first responders, but an Acrow solution with more capacity was still urgently needed and two 100-foot-long modular steel spans from Acrow were engineered for the project. The bridge was opened to traffic on Oct. 7, 2021.

For more than 70 years, Acrow has been serving the transportation and construction industries with bridging solutions for a wide range of applications. A worldwide leader in providing innovative engineering solutions, high-quality prefabricated components and comprehensive service, Acrow can help ensure the success of the most complex projects.
