First Quarter State and Local Transportation Contract Awards Continue to Climb

What happened: The overall value of state and local government transportation contract awards was $30 billion in 2024’s first quarter, compared to $27 billion in 2023’s first quarter and $26 billion in the first quarter of 2022. This represents the value of projects expected to break ground in 30 to 60 days.

More insight: Overall, the value of awards was up in 22 states through March. Top markets in 2024’s first quarter: Texas ($4.2B), Florida ($3.2B), California ($2.6B), Illinois ($1.2B), and Virginia ($1.1B).
