Comments on DOT Research Strategic Plan

ARTBA submitted comments to the U.S. Department of Transportation on the agency’s draft Transportation Research, Development, and Technology (RD&T) Strategic Plan, which will guide federal transportation research priorities for fiscal years 2026-2030. The comments urged a balanced approach to research investments that advances both long-term innovation and near-term applied technologies, supports open research and university partnerships, and addresses key trends such as work zone safety and Highway Trust Fund revenue challenges. ARTBA also stressed the importance of expanding technology transfer, coordinating research across modes and partners, and ensuring national standards promote interoperability and cost-effective project delivery.
